What are the park hours?
The park is open sunrise to sunset daily.
What are the Recreation Center hours?
During the school year, the hours are
M, W & F 2:30 pm-9:00 pm
T, Th 12:30 pm-9:00 pm
Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
During the summer, the hours are
M-F 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Is there a bathroom at the park?
Yes. There are bathrooms in the recreation center, which are accessible to park patrons when the recreation center is open.
Is the park dog friendly?
No. To ensure the park is safe for children, dogs may not go onto the field at Stead Park, into the play areas or into the basketball court. To find DC dog parks, please see: DPR website
Can we have birthday parties at the park?
Yes! All birthday parties require permits through the Department and Parks and Recreation. The form is available at: Birthday Party Forms
Can we reserve the park for other events?
Yes! A permit is required for the use of any DPR facility or site by: more than 10 people for an hour or more, organized leagues,or for special events or the reservation of a multipurpose room. The permit application can be found online at: Event Forms
Can we reserve the field?
Yes, but as noted above, it requires a permit. Please see the above form for park reservations.
When was the park renovated?
Renovations were completed in the fall of 2008 and the groundbreaking was held on December 12, 2008. The renovations were a five year project of DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Councilmember Jack Evans (Ward 2) and the Friends of Stead Park. How can I get involved?
Friends of Stead Park works with the Department and Parks and Recreation, as well as community groups, to upgrade the park and plan community events.
