Dear Friends,
Stead Park holds a special place in my heart. Since my daughter was born in 2002, I have enjoyed the wonderful community of parents in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. I met many of my friends at Stead Park as we shared experiences around the sandbox and swings. Since 2003 DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Councilmember Jack Evans (Ward 2) and the Friends of Stead Park, have been working on a plan to renovate this hub of community. Councilmember Evans moved those plans forward with a budget appropriation in 06, which allowed DPR to engage Lee & Associates to produce a design for the renovated park. At the end of the 06 budget year DPR was unable to continue the project and Friends of Stead Park stepped in to assume responsibility for keeping the project on track.

I am so pleased that we are finally ready to turn those plans into reality and I am asking for your support for this important neighborhood project. To learn more about the renovation project and to follow progress, please visit our 2008 Renovation Project webpage.

Sincerely,
Wendy Meltzer, President

What is Friends of Stead Park?

Friends of Stead Park is a volunteer organization of neighborhood residents who recognize Stead Park's founding and primary purpose is to serve the children of Washington, D.C. and that the Park has evolved and has great potential as a broader resource for education, recreation and community cohesion.  We are working to make Stead Park a safer, more attractive and engaging place to draw members of the community together by sponsoring events and programs and by funding capital improvements at Stead Park.

The mission of Friends of Stead Park is to work with the neighborhood, the Department of Recreation and Parks, and all others who use Stead Park, to create and maintain a safe, attractive environment for play and learning and to conceive and implement appropriate programming and events for children and adults.
